Founded in 2019 as a 501 (c)(3) non-profit, H.U.G.S. 4 Childhood Cancer strives to make a difference in those whose lives have been impacted by childhood cancer. The inspiration for H.UG.S. all began in 2009 when Hannah Adams was diagnosed with Stage 3 Nephroblastoma, which meant that a softball-sized cancerous tumor was enveloping her left kidney. Her family's world changed in an instant when the doctor said "Hannah has cancer." Within a week of her first appointment, Hannah was doing scans, starting chemotherapy, and receiving a pic-line. Eventually, she had to have an eight-hour surgery to remove the softball-sized cancerous tumor. After months of continued treatment, she was medically told she was cancer free and has remained cancer free for thirteen years! Once Hannah had won her battle, she and her family desired to give back to those who had given so much to them.
H.U.G.S. stands for Helping U Get Stronger and the three main focal points of the mission are legislative awareness, family support, and community awareness. The 501(c)(3) non-profit is based out of Birmingham, AL. H.U.G.S. wants to provide hope and support to families going through childhood cancer. H.U.G.S. works alongside incredible organizations like the Alabama Department of Public Health, Alabama Cancer Control Coalition, American Cancer Society Gold Together for Childhood Cancer, Kids v. Through partnering with the Alabama Department of Public Health, H.U.G.S. will continue supplying care packages to children and families with resources and support materials, as well as improving survivorship efforts for childhood cancer by educating doctors and families, increasing awareness, and advocating for better treatments that result in less long term side-effects
H.U.G.S. 4 Childhood Cancer will do everything possible for there to be a day when no child will ever hear the words "you have cancer."
