Founded in 2019 as a 501 (c)(3) non-profit, H.U.G.S. 4 Childhood Cancer strives to make a difference in those whose lives have been impacted by childhood cancer. The inspiration for H.UG.S. all began in 2009 when Hannah Adams was diagnosed with Stage 3 Nephroblastoma, which meant that a softball-sized cancerous tumor was enveloping her left kidney. Her family's world changed in an instant when the doctor said "Hannah has cancer." Within a week of her first appointment, Hannah was doing scans, starting chemotherapy, and receiving a pic-line. Eventually, she had to have an eight-hour surgery to remove the softball-sized cancerous tumor. After months of continued treatment, she was medically told she was cancer free and has remained cancer free for sixteen years! Once Hannah had won her battle, she and her family desired to give back to those who had given so much to them.
H.U.G.S. stands for Helping U Get Stronger and the three main focal points of the mission are legislative awareness, family support, and community awareness. The 501(c)(3) non-profit is based out of Birmingham, AL. H.U.G.S. wants to provide hope and support to families going through childhood cancer. H.U.G.S. works alongside incredible organizations like the Alabama Department of Public Health, Alabama Cancer Control Coalition, American Cancer Society Gold Together for Childhood Cancer, and Kids v. Cancer. Through partnering with the Alabama Department of Public Health, H.U.G.S. will continue supplying care packages to children and families with resources and support materials, as well as improving survivorship efforts for childhood cancer by educating doctors and families, increasing awareness, and advocating for better treatments that result in less long term side-effects
H.U.G.S. 4 Childhood Cancer will do everything possible for there to be a day when no child will ever hear the words "you have cancer."
H.U.G.S. 4 Childhood Cancer is a tax-exempt public charity (federal tax ID #83-3082640). All contributions are tax-deductible to the extent allowable by law.

Legislative Awareness
We focus on impacting the legislative process through advocacy and lobbying at both the state and federal levels to increase funding for childhood cancer research and accelerate the search for a cure. By working directly with lawmakers, educating elected officials, and mobilizing community voices, we ensure that childhood cancer remains a priority in policy discussions. Our efforts aim to drive meaningful legislative change, secure sustained research funding, and improve outcomes for children and families affected by childhood cancer.

Family Support
When a child is diagnosed with cancer, the effects ripple through the entire family. At H.U.G.S. 4 Childhood Cancer, we believe it is essential to care for the whole family, not just the diagnosis. From the patient to parents, siblings, and caregivers, every person deserves to feel supported, seen, and uplifted.
We provide personalized care packages to children fighting cancer, thoughtfully curated based on family submissions and referrals from our community. Each package is tailored to the child’s interests, needs, and stage of treatment, and includes comfort items, activities, and handwritten notes of encouragement. When requested, we also extend care packages to siblings, recognizing their unique experience and the importance of supporting them, too. Beyond physical gifts, our family support efforts are rooted in connection. Through hospital partnerships, community referrals, and online outreach, H.U.G.S. works to meet families where they are by offering encouragement and resources. |
Community Awareness
Local communities play a powerful role in supporting children and families facing childhood cancer. We create meaningful opportunities for involvement through fundraiser nights, school and classroom visits, community events, and awareness campaigns. By partnering with schools, businesses, and local organizations, we help educate the community, spark conversations, and empower individuals to stand alongside kids fighting cancer, showing them they are never alone.
